The park in the north of Duisburg was built in 1979 around the historic Mattlerhof as the last of the five districts in the Ruhrgebiet. The base area of the park is 45 ha. Together with the west adjacent green areas and allotments, the recreation area covers an area of almost 80 ha.
The park with its large trees, spacious meadows and a natural lake offers a wide range of leisure activities: the Niederrhein-Therme as a modern leisure pool with a graduation tower, a salt grotto and sauna landscape and other play and sports fields. Habitat for rare plants offers a specially designed wetland. There are regular events at the Mattlerhof. The brewery of the farm enjoys special popularity. The riding stable offers pony rides and wagon rides. It is also a point of departure for nearby schools to teach children how to use farm animals.
