It is part of the nature reserve "Unterer Neckar", which is divided into six protected areas from Heidelberg to Mannheim. The Neckar is characterized by a strong agro-cultural and technical-industrial use and change. Protective purpose is the preservation and promotion of river-specific fauna and flora and on the mulberry island in particular, the security of the remainder of a planted at the beginning of the 19th century planting the white mulberry tree (Morus alba).
