. This park was in existence until the 1870s and was named after Ludwig Erbrenzergarten. In 1856 there were initial considerations for redesigning the park. This was because of the rich collection of books and coins that were present at the Karlsruhe Castle at the time. Due to lack of space, planning to build a new group began in a central public square. Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden began an architectural competition that included the museum building and a prestigious courtyard in front of it. The winner of the competition was the burner student Carl Joseph Berkmüller. Berckmüller designed the State Museum of Natural History
