    One of Magdeburg's Parks

Already in the Middle Ages, the ancient city of Magdeburg was a very fortified and fortified fortification of the city. Also, especially in the area of the cathedral, attention was given to an insurmountable facility. Over the centuries, many towers, barriers or walls have been created.

In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, two massive parallel walls were built, contributing to the city's safety between the monastery and the south-eastern corner of the city near the cathedral. This part of the city's double wall was filled around 1725 under the command of Magdeburg Castle Governor, Prince Leopold of Anselt Desau, so that a street was built up to 12 meters wide.

Today, Fürstenwall, with street trees and greenery, offers great views of Elbe and Rotehornpark to the east, with Landesfunkhaus of MDR and Stadthalle.

Just south of the cathedral you will find the small park in Fürstenwall, which is virtually separated from the actual Fürstenwall. Also this park is located on part of the former fortification of Old Magdeburg, the former Rondell "Gebhard", which stood from 1536 on this place.

In 1900, the park's director, Johan Gottlieb Schusch, designed a "war memorial" that was to be built in honor of the losses of the wars of 1866, 1870 and 1871, a draft of the redesign of the region, which was virtually unchanged.

In recent years, the plant has been extensively refurbished, among other things, valuable tree sheaths were planted with flowering shrubs and perennial plants.
