The landscaped garden on the Habichswald slope is the largest mountain park in Europe and covers a total of 560 hectares. Over a period of three centuries, various gardening ideas can be experimentally represented as representations of absolute judgment. Since 2013, Gesamtkunstwerk Wilphemshöhe Bergpark with its historic water features has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
History Park
The Baroque complex was built in the early 18th century. Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Kassel built a 250-meter chain with the octagon and was completed by the Italian architect Giovanni Francesco Guerneyo from 1700 to 1717. Over the octagonal infrastructure, a steep pyramid rises and the statue of Hercules rises 8,30 meters. From the visitors' platform you have great views of the entire park and Kassel.
It's good to know
Hotel Bergpark is free throughout the year and can be accessed free of charge. Best way to experience the unique appeal of the area on foot. However, the main stations are approached by Bergparkbus. For cars and buses, parking spaces are located on the edge of the mountain promenade, which costs 7.00 euros parking fee per day on water days and is free on all other days. In order to avoid bottlenecks during water sports or during major festive events, it is recommended to use public transport. In the city center there are ample parking spaces with the best public transport available.
