Conservation area
The western Lippeaue with the nature reserves Brauck, Eckernkamp and Tiebaum, Alte Lippe and Former Radbausee, the eastern Lippeaue with the areas Schlagmersch, Mühlenlaar, Oberrwerrieser Mersch, Haarener Lippeaue, Munnebach and Schmehauser Mersch and the forest areas Frielicker wood and Geithewald are sections of the lip, which make them one of the nation's most important rivers. It has submarine vegetation of crucial importance for migratory fish species and home to numerous native animal and plant species.
