The new park is located in North Potsdam on Jungfernsee

Departure from Baroque Park led by King Friedrich Wilhelm II
The new 102.5 hectare park is located in the north of Potsdam on Gangferzny. Over the water there are innovative connections to the Sacrow, Peacock Island, Glienicke and Babelsberg parks, giving it a key role in the garden landscape. Although he is worn out by Lenny, he still has individual emotional parts of evolution before the 1800s are reserved.

His story begins with the purchase of a central plot by Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm II. In 1787, a year after taking office, the new park, named after the departure of the old Baroque Sanssouci Park, began. As the designer of the gardener Wörlitz gardener Johann August Eyserbeck, which included the implementation of the Friedrich Wilhelm model of the English city.

It was not appropriate for the unified personality of the park to buy the land for several years. In addition to the former houses, important new buildings were built in the park between 1787 and 1792, of which there are still many today: a marble palace, a Roman temple kitchen, a Gothic library, a wooden house, an Orangery, a cave, dairy, ), Before the latter ran, accompanied by pyramidal poplar trees (since 1864 the oak pyramid), a sample of Prussia Chausseebau. In the garden, a large range of different emotional fingerprints, defined by the buildings or farms concerned with their nature has been created.

In 1816, Peter Joseph Lenni reviewed on behalf of the crown prince an overgrown and obsolete park. With many areas and distance to dense shrubs, the new park has great views and meadows, more pleasing directions and above all the landscape links to the surrounding gardens (Sacrow, Pfaueninsel, Glienicke, Babelsberg, Potsdam, Pfingstberg). Despite minor changes in the Empire period and the restoration of equipment from the Russian period of use (1945-1954), still preserved the basic structure planned by Lenny.
The Cecilenhof Palace, built for the crown prince from 1913 to 1917, was built in a very harmonious manner. Since then, a 13-hectare area that has been destroyed as a border area between 1960 and 1990 has been restored.

Shell cave in the new park
Kristall- und Muschelgrotte is a garden decoration in Potsdamer Neuen Garten. It was built between 1791 and 1794 as a hidden haven for Prussian king Friedrich Wilhelm II (judgment 1786-1797). Already under the reign of his successor, Friedrich Wilhelm III. (Rule 1797-1840) The mussel cave remained unused and soon fell into oblivion. However, its structural maintenance has been taken care of, as many of the nineteenth-century repair attacks appear inside the cave.

From 1963 to 1990, the monument was located at the border of the Berlin Wall and was abandoned. After the reunification of the impending sinking of the cave: the roof structure can be renovated, the former Grottierung remains and painting inside the cave. Since 2003, the façade has been gradually restored and rebuilt as well as luxurious interiors.

The Förderkreis Muschelgrotte in the Neue Garten Potsdam e. V. made her mission in making cave shell public and raising funds to maintain and maintain the building.

Note to visitors: You will find the seashell cave at the north end of the new park on the banks of Lake Jungfernsee, not far from Cecilienhof Castle (parking lot in Cecilienhof, from there 200 meters away). Internal inspection of the cave is possible after the previous registration. Contact: Information (at) muschelgrotte.de
