Swimming and diving is not allowed
The area of the Bessung gravel pit was put under nature protection in 1994, because there in the gravel pit a special fauna settled, which it must be protected. Due to the peculiarity of the regional council Darmstadt has designated the area as a nature reserve, the fencing was required because the mine was repeatedly used despite appropriate signage as a recreational area.
