One of the most popular destinations in Göttingen
The nature reserve is located in the Göttingen forest and is dominated by the forest master beech forest. To a lesser extent, the rare orchid-lime-beech forest as well as remnants of the oak-hornbeam forest and isolated alder-ash-spring forest areas occur. Particularly worthy of protection is the structural wealth with a high proportion of dead and old wood
The Kerstlingeröderfeld in the heart of the city forest is a gem with its meadows, pastures and bushes. There are more than 650 butterfly species and flowery meadows with orchids and gentians.
