On the plateau, however, we find the usual vegetation of Mediterranean natural areas: Aleppo pines, umbrella pines, and pubescent oaks. This plant diversity attracts a variety of wildlife, and sometimes offers rest and food to migratory birds.
The Athena Park owes its name to the theater whose remains can be seen. It was built in the early twentieth century, on the order of the owner, Paul Barlatier (press boss and man of culture). This theater is one of the first buildings made entirely of reinforced concrete. It includes a reproduction of the temple Athena Niké (Niké means in Greek "the victory") erected on the Acropolis. From 1908 to 1914, he hosted performances very popular with the Marseille bourgeoisie "in an antique panorama where a little Arcadian style".
