Wooded and enclosed park of eight hectares in the heart of the town, the Hill of Mourgues offers the walker landscaped trails punctuated by oratories, picnic areas and games for the youngest and views of the Palais des Papes and Avignon, the village and monuments of Villeneuve-les-Avignon and Mont Ventoux.
The name "Mourgues" comes from the Occitan word "monk", the place being an old religious property. There are still some remains of the hermitage where Father Crouzet-Lacombe from the Chartreuse took refuge during the Revolution. And you can still see the tomb that has dug in the rock (but despite his last wish, the father is buried in the cemetery like everyone else).
