    Is Pavia's green lung

Vernavola Park in Pavia consists of the lands declared as an oasis town for the protection of wildlife.

The park, located north of the city, is a very important ecological corridor linking the urban environment with the surrounding agro-ecosystems.

Vernavola Park is rich in animals, counting 34 species of nesting birds, 54 species of spiders, 42 species of carbides, and 17 species of butterflies.

The park is very popular among the people of Pavia because it represents for many people the concrete possibility to learn to observe plants and animals by discovering biodiversity every day.

As you enter the park from the entrance of Via Acerbi, we begin in the direction of the "Botanical Path" designed and created by the Citta Giardino Provincial Council to promote the distinctive plant species of the park.

It is a path lined with the most representative garden trees and shrubs that have been marked with visitors identifying species, including: American Maple, White Birch, Wild Cherry, Common Ash, Ash Ash, Privet, Wild Apple, Hazel, Country Elm, Black Alder, Poplar, Canadian Poplar, Gray Poplar, Common Platano, Plum, Red Oak, Robinia, White Willow, W Will Willow, Willow and Elderberry.

Along the way you will encounter a small bridge leading to another area of the park where you will also find Biancospini, Rovelle, Gelsi neri, Wild Walnut, Tigli, Bagolari and Farnie.

On the same road, you reach a crossroads: the road to the right, which will soon rise along the meadows, leads to the entrance to Via della Torretta; the left path instead leads to the most interesting part of the park.

Here nature is indisputably dominated: first you skirt the Alder forest (Alnus glutinosa) to the right of the path and the Robinia grove (Robinia pseudoacacia) on the left side, then Roggia Vernaola on its banks which you can also enjoy Mazzesorde (Typha latifolia), swamp cane (Praghmites australis) ), Water iris (Iris pseudacorus), polygons (Poligonum persicaria), Carici (Carex sp.), Etc.

Near the entrance of Via Torretta, in a fenced "pond", you can enjoy the Maldives, ducks, royal swans, black swans, some Gray Herons and Mornes, but also different types of carp, trenches and carassi.

By walking along the path, we avoid the irrigation ditch on the one hand and the area 'intentionally lagging' on the other, in this natural environment we can find the same species of birds but also Fringuelli, Verdoni, Merli, Storni and in the waters of Vernaola, some turtles with red ears It was fired by those who kept it in the tub.

Outside the bridge on the right and continuing for a few hundred meters down the road, you will reach the Alder described above: a real refuge for wildlife living here without being disturbed by hunters safely.

In this area, of course more natural and less frequent than the former, there are pheasant, foxes, hares, hares, nutria, voles, hoops, greens and canareccioni.

It then continues towards the most humid area, which is characterized by an irrigation canal and the numerous emissions found in its bottom and surrounding areas, and here it is not uncommon to be able to see some Tarabusino areas.

Still far, to the right of the road, there is a small fenced artificial lake, fed by Veranula, where you can enjoy interesting species of waterfowl such as royal swans (Cignus olor), Zavoli (Anas crecca), Moret (Aythya fuligula), Morette tabaccate (Aythya nyroca) and Canada geese (Branta canadensis).
