A short walk from the historic center of Viggianello, near the Municipal Amphitheater, there is a road heading up towards Serra Mauro (1550 m), which was once used by herdsmen for mandibular disease which, through a mixed forest with spread Holm oak, rich in plants, leads to vision huts, where it is possible to observe the deer, which has been reintroduced since 2002 thanks to the Basilicata Region project coordinated by the University of Siena.
The reissue began with the release of six deer in the Bosco Magnano enclosure taken from the Acquerino forest in Tuscany and continued in the following years, until today, with 60 more specimens, released in the natural environment (Viggianello, San Costantino Albanese, Terranova di Pollino) and in an agricultural environment.
