Villa del Prefetto, attached to Palazzo della Prefettura, was born and owned by the province of Potenza, as a "steep site" and a convent of San Francesco for agricultural use. The villa itself was built only in the 19th century on terraces connected by walkways and staircases with handrails with dense vegetation and leafy. In 1934 it was converted into an organized villa, according to the style of the Italian Renaissance gardens. In the mid-1960s, it officially opened to the public. After being closed to the public for a long time for maintenance reasons, it reopened with continuity for several years, thanks to the rush of the city's association world. A theater for many events on the occasion of Maggio potentino and celebrations in honor of Patron Saint, is the natural theater of the playful cultural program "E 'viva la villa" by the Association of Carriers of Saint Potenza. Thanks to this new role, Villa del Prefetto has become a symbol of the city.
