Located along Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, Villa Comunale of Avellino was established in 1916 as an extension of the old botanical garden established by the Ultra Emirate Provincial Council in 1819.
In the Fascist period the park itself was partially affected by the construction of G.I.L. (Gioventù Italiana del Littorio), therefore it is currently significantly reduced compared to its origins.
The present wonderful variety of plants, including flying trees and linden trees, is the result of intense work begun in 1839 for a desirable experience by Economist Federico Cassito.
In 1916, there was an administrative transition from the province to the municipality which finally allowed for public enjoyment.
So far, traditional crafts and gastronomy markets have contributed to increasing the flow of visitors to the former botanical garden, especially during the Christmas period.
