About Park

  • Preview

A popular gathering place for both westerners and tourists

The area is about 500 meters long and 250 meters wide (about 12 hectares). The park is situated on a hilltop with views of the Cathedral, Stadshuset, Skrapan and part of Lake Mälaren, among others. Adjacent to the park is Djäknebergsskolan, a public school which was inaugurated in 1894 and which today houses Västerås Folk High School and Västerås Art School.

All over the park area there are over 500 inscriptions in stone scattered. They are engraved in stones and the rock itself. Often it is just a name but sometimes also quotes. The author behind most of the inscriptions is the lecturer and the former. Captain Sam Lidman, who in the years 1862–1895 transformed the Devil Mountain from a bare rock into a park to stay in.
