The commissioning of the park started in 1865 and the city's garden association was given the assignment. They chose an English-style design with discounts and meandering gravel paths, picturesque archways and vantage points. During the big city fire in 1888 most of the park was destroyed and many bushes and trees were badly damaged.
The monument was completed and in 1897 extensive restoration work was started to restore the park. Early music events took place in the park and in 1920 a music pavilion was erected in the middle of the park. It was octagonal with copper roof and a golden lyre at the top.
The park was restored in 1997. The goal was to recreate the park character as a cultural park as far as possible. It got seven park rooms with different character expressions that will help make the park more interesting and multifaceted. The park rooms are as follows: Entrance room, Brynzonen, Gaturummet, Lunden, Utsiktsplatsen, Woodland and the open landscape.
In the park there are the following trees and shrubs: spring birch, ornamental birch, ash maple, forest maple, ornamental apple, hawk, woolly grove, oak, lime tree, forest salmon, ginnal maple, American hawthorn, bouquet pile, shade morel, mulberry, rhyodyrus, red neon rose, red neon rose, red neon pine whiplash, barberry, elderberry, lemon hydrangea and a variety of perennials.
