The statue in bronze is made by Schwanthaler in Munich and cast by Ferdinand von Miller the Elder. It depicts the king, wearing a marshal's suit and military coat, with bare, bearded head. The foundation stone was laid on July 21, 1845 by Queen Desideria's widow, and the inauguration took place on October 20, 1846 in the presence of Oscar I, Queen Josefina, the widow of Desideria and others. In a lengthy speech to the king, the wholesaler Moselius reported on the gratitude that prompted the statue's travelers. A medal was commemorated by the festivities.
