The park is conceived as an island kingdom with a large number of recreational uses, with the emphasis being placed on public access, green quality and sustainability. The backbone of the park design is the so-called Perenlaantje; the new bicycle / footpath connection that forms a green, recreational connection between the center of Amsterdam and the Amsterdamse Bos. The historic landscape element, the old railway embankment, has been the basis for the design of this new route. We have divided the area into a number of islands, each with its own function and character: a tennis, football, park and nature island. Increasing the water surface and the use of jetties, platforms, bridges and reed collars will strengthen the water character of the area and create a special island kingdom, the front garden of the Zuidas.
