The history of the castle is very short, and it appears that it actually collapsed in 1320. Archaeological excavations from 1889-190 have shown that there are historical layers of violence attesting to the realization and establishment of the bourgeoisie.
As today's dam leads Randersvej to Viborg Lakes, medieval travelers were transported across lakes in barges. From the west side of the lake this happened from long seaweeds that extend to the water from Burgold.
