It is a facility of the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Vienna
The tasks of the Botanical Garden include research and university teaching, maintaining endangered plant species and exchanging seeds and plants with other institutions. A large part of the park adjacent to the Belvedere Park is open to the public, and thus serves as a local recreation area in the inner city. Among the greenhouses, only the tropical house in a central location in the greenhouse complex is open to the public.
