Global extinction affects plants and animals alike, and preserving biodiversity is an increasing challenge. Botanical gardens have a special responsibility here - in the Botanical Gardens of Germany alone, there are approximately 50,000 species of plants in culture, which is approximately one in seven plant species worldwide. The permanent maintenance of these collections and the reproduction of species for resettlement in the wild is an important task for botanical gardens, which nonetheless requires specially trained personnel. In classic professional training for gardeners, these special qualifications are most often addressed, so the Federal Botanic Gardens eV (VBG) has developed a two-year training series, aimed at botanical staff and other professional gardeners * within and coordinated by the University of Bonn Botanical Gardens. Participants gain basic knowledge from the areas of international law for the protection of species. Special botany and special horticultural skills and techniques are taught: from the proper storage of seeds in gene banks to complex reproductive methods, but also the rhetoric of gardeners is listed in the table.
