Historical conditions caused the botanical garden to move from one place to another several times, and at the present time it is located in two places - Vingis Park and Kairainai. Today, the VU Botanical Garden covers 199 hectares and the collections contain about 10,000 plant names. The most abundant and impressive groups are rhododendron, lilac, peony, peony, dahliais and lamps. Visitors can already explore the Japanese Garden, which is in the middle of its development.
The plants and animals of the VU Botanical Garden are very rich. About 400 species of poisonous plants are found here (approximately 30% of Lithuanian plant species). The park houses more than 120 species of vertebrates, including about 80 species of birds (about 25% of the species found in Lithuania). Thirteen species of vertebrates found in the Botanical Garden are included in the Lithuanian Red Book. Visitors can discover natural plants by walking along the paths of self-contained plants.
