In the middle part of Margaret Island we can find a 5200 m² pet garden, where visitors can also see native water and birds of prey, deer, rabbits and ponies in Hungary. The park, which can be visited from the outside all year round, from the inside only in the summer season, also has pony rides in good weather.
In the middle of Margaret Island is the Pet Zoo, which opened its doors in the 1950s. The previously dilapidated garden has been provided by the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden since 2002, and in that year the nearly 5,200 m² garden was renovated.
The other half of the zoo is inhabited by waterfowl and other bird species found in nature in Hungary. Smaller catwalks housed owls, eagles and other birds of prey that were injured in the zoo. Carers have managed to save the lives of these birds, but without human help they would no longer be able to survive in nature.
Inside the free pet zoo you will find a stable for ponies. The ponies living here can even be ridden in fine weather, but this is already paid entertainment. Horseback riding before and after the summer break is only available on weekends, during the summer break, every day.
