- Founded in 1891 is the largest zoo in Egypt and the Middle East, the first and oldest zoos in Africa. It was called the "crown jewel of zoos in Africa". It was passed by Khedive Ismael and opened by Khedive Mohamed Tawfiq. It began with imported flowers and plants not found in Egyptian nature. There are also about 6,000 animals from about 1755 species including crocodiles, wild cows, elephants and blacks. Monkeys, and the area of the park is about 80 acres. It is considered one of the most important tourist places in Cairo.
