One of Manchester's parks
At the start of the 20th Century wealthy industrialist Samuel Lamb decided to create gardens to compliment his substantial Victorian house. A team of 16 gardeners created and managed extensive landscaped area, croquet lawns, tennis courts, formal gardens and hot houses containing vines, peaches and orchids. In 1936, following the death of Samuel Lamb, Bowdon UDC took over management of the gardens and made them available for the public to enjoy. The house remains in private ownership and is not open to the public.
