Walkden Gardens is a beautiful and peaceful hideaway close to the centre of Sale. It is known locally as 'The Maze' because it consists of several 'rooms' leading off from the main ornamental grass walkway. If you explore, you will find interesting features such as the fuchsia garden, open-air theatre lawn and wisteria arch.
The land was donated to the people of Sale by the late Harry Walkden, a well-known local hybridist of golden rod and orchids, with the condition that it was used to create a botanical gardens or public greenspace. Over the past two years the gardens have had life breathed back into what was once just a lifeless field.
