As the largest open water area in Dudley, the Vince volcano is important for migratory water birds and winter birds, attracting regular ducks such as Shofler and Jadwal. Among the unusual winter visitors are birch and bizarre, while bird breeding in the ponds includes the slow swan and the gorse cristid gerbie.
The small ponds north of the ponds are home to a huge number of frogs, frogs and nutes, including Newt Crested Newt which has unfortunately fallen in British numbers in recent years.
Fens Pools has one of the largest populations of Great Crested Newt in the U.K. and because of this is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
