Since 1906, the former Bastion Casparus bears the official name Alter Elbpark. In the same year, a monument was erected on its hill in honor of the first Chancellor. The 15-meter-high figure of Otto von Bismarck, supported by a sword in the shape of a Roland, looks westwards over Altona. Even today, Hamburg's largest monument to the sculptor Hugo Lederer impresses with its approximately 36 meters. The base of the monument was supplemented a few years later by figures of Germanic tribes. The Hamburger Bismarckstand picture is the largest and most well-known in the world.
The park preserves many old trees such as oaks, chestnuts and plane trees, as well as exotic ones such as Aleppo Pine and Japanese Cherry Trees. Some of them are from the mid-19th century, the cherry trees were replanted in the 1950s.
