The park Villa Berg was built in the middle of the 19th century

The villa served the Württemberg Crown Prince and later royal couple Karl and Olga as a summer residence. In 1913, the city of Stuttgart bought the villa from the heirs and had it renovated in 1925. After heavy destruction in the Second World War, it became the property of the Süddeutscher Rundfunk (SDR), which rebuilt it in a simplified manner, installed a large broadcasting hall and used it for concerts. When SWR, which emerged from the Süddeutscher Rundfunk, started to build an extension to the Neckarstraße, in 2007 it sold the Villa Berg (in addition to the historic building, other old SDR buildings in the park) to the Häussler Group. Following the bankruptcy of this group in 2010, the Villa Berg was sold to the Düsseldorf-based real estate group PDI Property Development Investors GmbH. In June 2015, after intense negotiations, a purchase was announced by the city of Stuttgart.  The Villa Berg is in a neglected and run-down condition.
