Until the mid-1970s, the site was occupied by a large industrial area. His outsourcing opened the way for a large-scale, urban development. A competition showed for the city area east of the main station to Flingern and Oberbilk concepts for an international trade center with an attractive park.
The important integration into the urban environment took place primarily through the designation of an attractive green corridor from the main station through the park to the districts of Flingern and Oberbilk. The park thus fulfills an important stepping stone or turntable function. The plant was realized in three phases.
The park is characterized by its communicative character. Grassy areas dominate the picture, giving the inhabitants of the neighboring districts room for recreation, encounters, sports and games.
