New garden in Krupp belt
Essen is building a new park, Krupp Park, in the Krupp belt as part of the Stettumbau West-Buchhold / Altendorf-Nord financing program. The northern part was opened in 2009.
Krupp belt
The Krupp belt is located directly west of the city center of Essen. In the past, the Krupp steel plant has been expanded to 230 hectares. After massive destruction in World War II or after most factories were shut down, the site was partially broken and could not be reached. Essen now recognizes an important project for further urban development in the Krupp belt. High quality commercial and office locations are being developed, complemented by residential areas.
