While the former wasteland in northern Essen over several decades was converted into large green areas, public parks and other gardens that could adapt to the requirements of users, Nordpark received only a few developmental motives and was even marginalized through competing uses. The abandonment of the Altenberg sports stadium and the planned diversion of Berne from the flow of sewage into a new watercourse now offer good opportunities to give Nordpark new qualities.
Redesign the chart
Nordpark is currently being redesigned until 2017 as part of the Altenessen-Süd / Nordviertel urban redevelopment.
The combination of new multi-use, powerful and air-conditioned stadiums and separate facilities for children, adolescents and adults will significantly increase ease of use and comfort in North Park.
